Subject: Dorothy Dandridge
Size: 9x12 (approximate)
Description: Signed circa 1941 program for the revue, Meet the People, autographed by the actress when she was about sixteen or seventeen years old. Also signed by several other cast members, the most noteworthy being Broadway star Mary McCarty (Dandridge is not listed among the cast or pictured; she replaced actress Virginia O'Brien during the show's run). In his biography of Dandridge, Donald Bogle devotes several pages to her appearance in Meet the People, as it represented a pivotal event in her life. It marked the first time she performed solo (until then, she was part of a sister act), and on an equal basis with an otherwise all-white cast. The revue paved the way for her historic career, the high point of which was her Oscar-nominated performance in Carmen Jones. This is the earliest Dandridge signature we have seen. From the estate of actress Lorraine Krueger, one of the stars of the show. (Vintage item and signature)
Condition: Good Plus with part of a page missing, scuffing on one of the photos, and some ink stains
