Description:  Extremely scarce signed postcard.  McCarey (1896-1969) began his career in 1919 as assistant director to the great Tod Browning.  As writer-director at the Hal Roach Studio in the twenties, he was responsible for the teaming of comedy legends Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy.  McCarey's feature films include some of the most enduring classics of the studio era, including the gleefully anarchic Marx Brothers comedy Duck Soup (1933), the moving 1937 drama Make Way for Tomorrow, the Bing Crosby hit Going My Way (1944), and the romantic classic An Affair to Remember (1957).  Included:  a one-of-a-kind original 8x10 of McCarey at his birthday party with great cinematographer Joseph Walker and other crew members, photographed during the filming of the The Awful Truth (1937).  (Vintage item postmarked JUL 15 1958)

Condition:  Fine with age discoloration and light ink marks; the photo is in excellent condition
