Description:  Scarce MGM contract signed by both.  As head of MGM and the purported creator of the star system, Mayer (1884-1957) was perhaps the most famous movie mogul of the studio era.  Sutherland (1895-1973) began his film career as one of Mack Sennett's legendary Keystone Kops.  He turned to directing in the twenties and became one of Hollywood's top comedy specialists, working with W.C. Fields, Eddie Cantor, Abbott and Costello, and other greats.  Films include It's the Old Army Game (1926), Palmy Days (1931), International House (1933) the horror classic Murders in the Zoo (1933), and One Night in the Tropics (1940).  Sutherland was married to the great screen beauty Louise Brooks when this document was signed.  (Vintage item dated February 11, 1928)
