Subject: The Smothers Brothers, Tom and Dick
Size: 8x10
Description: Exceptionally rare circa 1967 portrait, inscribed by Tom and signed by both to the daughter of an assistant director working in TV at the time. Airing at the height of the Vietnam conflict, the duo's hit variety series, The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, generated much controversy with its daringly topical humor and youth-oriented musical guests. Despite its popularity, especially with younger viewers, the show's frequent clashes with network censors led to its abrupt cancellation in 1969. The brothers continued to appear on TV and remain comedy legends. Tom Smothers passed away at age eighty-six in 2023. (Vintage original photograph; true vintage autographs)
