Subject: Joyzelle Joyner
Size: 8x10
Description: Supremely rare doubleweight late twenties portrait, inscribed and signed (Joyzelle, as she was often billed) by the beautiful dancer-actress. Photograph by the Paralta studio of Hollywood. Joyner (1905-1980) has come to be viewed as a symbol of pre-Code salaciousness thanks to her famously provocative dancing in Cecil B. DeMille's The Sign of the Cross (1932). Other films include The Black Watch (1929), the sci-fi musical Just Imagine (1930), and Dante's Inferno (1935). This is the only signed photo of hers we have encountered. (Vintage original photograph; true vintage autograph)
Condition: Fine Minus with a few edge and corner tack holes and slightly curled edges; the inscribee's name has been erased, and some of the writing is slightly faded including the last part of her name
